Rhode Island Property & Casualty Insurance Guaranty Association
The Rhode Island Property & Casualty Insurance Guaranty Association ("RIPCIGA") is a non-profit, unincorporated association of all Rhode Island-licensed property and casualty insurers. It was created by the Rhode Island legislature to provide protections to Rhode Island policyholders and claimants in the event an insurance company becomes insolvent. RIPCIGA pays covered claims as authorized by Rhode Island General Laws § 27-34-1, et seq. RIPCIGA is not an insurance company. It does not issue policies or collect premiums. RIPCIGA exists to pay covered claims when an insurer becomes insolvent. All insurance companies licensed to sell property and casualty insurance in Rhode Island are required to be members of the Association and contribute to the fund used for payment of covered claims.
